Each year in August the great sailing race 'Tjörn Runt' (Around Tjörn) provides a dramatic spectacle with colourful crowds, a host of sailboats and a rainbow of glowing sails.

An ever increasing number of anglers head for the rocks of western Tjörn, and at Rävlanda the golf course, laid out close to ancient rock carvings and the remains of crofters' cottages, provides exercise along with unsurpassed cultural and landscape views.

Tennis courts and football fields, gymnasiums and iceskating halls are available for those seeking exercise, and the numerous sports clubs serving the young arrange icehockey, football, handball and basketball tournaments. Horseriders can choose among several riding schools sited on the island.
